Boundary ferromagnetism in zigzag edged graphene

چکیده
The flat band of edge states that occur in the simple tight-binding lattice model graphene with a zigzag have long been conjectured to take up ferromagnetic configuration. In this work, we prove that, for large class interaction Hamiltonians can be added model, and at first order perturbation theory, degeneracy is resolved such way ground state maximal, spin j = N/2 representation symmetry, where N number states.

Heterospin Junctions in Zigzag-Edged Graphene Nanoribbons
We propose a graphene nanoribbon-based heterojunction, where a defect-free interface separates two zigzag graphene nanoribbons prepared in opposite antiferromagnetic spin configurations. This heterospin junction is found to allow the redirecting of low-energy electrons from one edge to the other. The basic scattering mechanisms and their relation to the system’s geometry are investigated throug...
متن کاملElectric field effects in zigzag edged graphene nanoribbons
We investigate the magnetic ordering in zigzag edged graphene nanoribbons under cross-ribbon electric fields by using the Hubbard model within the unrestricted Hatree-Fock approximation. In the absence of applied electric field, the ground state is an “edge-magnetized state” with magnetic moments mainly localized on the edges, where the moments on the two edges are mutually antiparallel. Under ...
متن کاملEffects induced by single and multiple dopants on the transport properties in zigzag-edged graphene nanoribbons
The effects of boron and nitrogen doping on the transport properties of zigzag-edged graphene nanoribbons ZGNRs with antiferromagnetically coupled edge states are investigated by first-principles electronic structure combined with a nonequilibrium Green’s function technique. Specifically, the effects produced by single and multiple impurities as a function of their distance from the edges are a...
متن کاملFerromagnetism in semihydrogenated graphene sheet.
Single layer of graphite (graphene) was predicted and later experimentally confirmed to undergo metal-semiconductor transition when fully hydrogenated (graphane). Using density functional theory we show that when half of the hydrogen in this graphane sheet is removed, the resulting semihydrogenated graphene (which we refer to as graphone) becomes a ferromagnetic semiconductor with a small indir...
متن کاملQuantum Hall ferromagnetism in graphene.
Graphene is a two-dimensional carbon material with a honeycomb lattice and Dirac-like low-energy excitations. When Zeeman and spin-orbit interactions are neglected, its Landau levels are fourfold degenerate, explaining the 4e2/h separation between quantized Hall conductivity values seen in recent experiments. In this Letter we derive a criterion for the occurrence of interaction-driven quantum ...
